The dot SE country-code top-level domain was started in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its launch, the registration process was very restrictive, so a very small number of domains were ordered. Persons could grab solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a requirement, i.e. merely Swedish persons, commercial entities and organizations were able to get a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized notably and, as a consequence, the number of .SE domains has been mounting each year.
